Meet My Grandaughter

Annie is a special gift from the Lord. She was born five months after my mother passed away, and was a great comfort to me in my grief. Here is a poem I wrote about her a few years ago.

A Special Day
annie spent the day with me
running errands.
at hobby lobby,
we chose scrapbook papers
and stickers -
anticipated
making our pages at home.

at home we made banana bread,
pausing when the bag of flour
had tiny bugs in it.
we hurried to the local store
bought a new bag and
came back home to finish.
later we feasted. “It’s very good,”
annie said, making me smile.

smiling,  annie danced for me,
blond curls shaking in her pony tail
all she needed was a poodle skirt
to look like a “fifties girl.”
“a what?” she asked,
opening her brown eyes wide
“a fifties girl” I said again.
“like when I was your age.”
“oh,” she said and moved on.
ready to play a game on the computer.
